Dr. Amy Herzog Woods
I am a licensed, clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience, specializing in the treatment and recovery process of all types of eating disorders. In addition, I have extensive experience working with clients with anxiety and depression, including work with self-injurious behaviors, processing grief, post traumatic stress disorder, adjustment difficulties, marital and relationship concerns, children of divorced parents, including divorce parenting plans and co-parenting therapy sessions. I have a background in family systems and recognize the importance of communicating effectively in relationships, as well as addressing underlying emotional needs.
I provide individual, family and couples psychotherapy, and treat of variety of different presenting problems, which may be affecting one’s mood, health, and ability to function in every day life. I work with children, adolescents, and adults. My approach is using an integrative relational style that incorporates both psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral techniques.
Therapy will focus on defining what issues you are struggling with such as relationship and self-esteem issues as well as coping with daily life stressors. I truly believe that everyone can benefit from being in psychotherapy, and each person is highly unique. My goal is to make therapy a warm and safe space to help you make the changes you wish to make. I aim to create an environment that is both engaging and authentic. I build on individual personal strengths, values, and skills, to work together with clients on meeting their goals. I view therapy as a collaborative relationship in which clients are active participants in the process of change. I am an interactive and engaging therapist.
My approach provides support and practical feedback to help you effectively address life challenges. I have a variety of techniques and a personalized approach for each client. Of primary importance, I am aware of how diversity and cultural issues can impact therapy. Understanding gender issues, the family’s ethnicity, cultural background, religious identification, socioeconomic status, age, and sexual orientation can be critical in making a connection and having a comprehensive understanding of the client’s worldview. With kindness, caring, and compassion, I will work with you to help you build on your strengths and achieve your fullest growth and potential.
